Ankur Shrivastava on Fashion Merchandising & Brand Building | Chitkara Design School

What does it really take to build a fashion brand that lasts — beyond great design? In this conversation, Ankur Shrivastava, Chief Merchandising Officer at Nicobar, sits down with a fashion design student from Chitkara Design School to talk about his 20+ year journey — from graduating at NIFT New Delhi, to over two decades leading design and visual merchandising for Max at the Landmark Group in Dubai, to now shaping one of India's most distinctive modern Indian brands. Ankur shares his working definition of merchandising — a mix of data, instinct, and listening closely to the consumer — and explains why the best insights don't come from dashboards, but from time spent on the shop floor. He also opens up about what makes Nicobar different: a brand built to be modern and Indian, rather than Western in an Indian wrapper. For students and early-career professionals, he offers grounded, practical advice: how to get noticed by the brands you admire, what skill separates a good merchandiser from a great one, and why relationships — not just résumés — shape careers in this industry. 🎓 A conversation from the Department of Fashion Design, Chitkara Design School, Chitkara University. #ChitkaraUniversity #FashionDesign #FashionMerchandising #Nicobar #FashionIndustry #RetailStrategy #FashionDesignStudent #IndianFashionBrands #MerchandisingTips #FashionCareerAdvice #ChitkaraDesignSchool #ExploreYourPotential #ChitkaraU ________________________________________________________________________ ⭐ To learn more about Chitkara University, please visit our official website: https://www.chitkara.edu.in/ 🗣️ Connect with us on our social media platforms for the latest updates and news: 👉Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/ChitkaraU 👉Instagram - https://www.instagram.com/chitkarau 👉X (Formerly Twitter) - https://www.x.com/ChitkaraU 👉LinkedIn - https://www.linkedin.com/school/chitkara-university/ 🔔 Subscribe to our YT Channel: https://www.youtube.com/@chitkarauniversity/
