My brother Jon runs JJ's — a handmade jewelry business with his wife Jen — while on ODSP in Ontario. In this first episode of my disabled small business spotlight series, John shows how he makes his cross earrings (the bestseller), his $5–$10 Halloween line, and talks honestly about how the extra income helps because ODSP doesn't pay a lot. The rule that makes it possible: in Ontario, the first $1,000/month of net earnings is fully exempt on ODSP — the cheque doesn't move. Above that, ODSP deducts 75 cents per extra dollar, and you get a $100/month Work-Related Benefit. I'm looking for more disabled entrepreneurs on ODSP to feature — family-friendly businesses (crafts, baking, art, food, repairs, services). If that's you or someone you know, DM me your story. To order from Jon: his commerce profile (Jon Hebert) is shown in the video.
