Decomposing clothing releases methane, a harmful greenhouse gas and a significant contributor to global warming. There are dyes and chemicals in fabrics and other components of clothing that can leach into the soil, contaminating both surface and groundwater. It has been recently estimated that half a million tonnes of plastic microfibers shed during washing ends up in the ocean and ultimately enters the food chain. This means we may end up eating our own clothes if nothing is done. With this at heart Elin realized that she can combine the passion she has for circular fashion, sustainability, and a strong will to make a change. She co-founded residus a company that creates clothes for women of different body shapes from left-over fabrics. The idea is to create essential and long-lasting pieces in left-over fabrics, to move away from the quick trends, and to create a sustainable and circular movement. Based on real needs and real experiences, Elin founded Residus in 2016 with a vision to change the fashion industry. The idea is to create essential and long-lasting pieces in leftover fabrics, to move away from the quick trends, and to create a sustainable and circular movement.
