Check out this week’s PCDN.Global Craig and Careers: I met Paula Andrea Patiño at our career workshop during Climate Week Medellín. She runs Verde Mar, a clothing brand built on natural fibers, and she had a lot to say about why what we wear is a climate issue. Her numbers: around 60% of clothing worldwide is now polyester, and polyester is made from petroleum. 90% of the materials she uses are natural fibers: linen, hemp, wood-based fabrics. She started the brand while living in Cancún, in front of the ocean, after deciding that selling other people’s clothes was not enough. Verde Mar calls it conscious luxury crafted in Colombia, resortwear with soul. In their words: “Every fiber has traceability. Every piece has a story. Nature inspires everything we create. Preserving it is part of our responsibility.” Verde Mar is an emerging brand with pop-ups and events coming in Medellín.
