In 2026, researchers demonstrated programmable integrated-circuit fibres that can combine sensing, analogue processing, digital logic, light emission and touchless control directly inside deformable textiles. Years later, textile-electronics engineer Dr. Naomi Vega investigates a hospital blanket that counts thirteen people in a ward containing twelve. The extra signal appears only when enough human bodies and standardized circuit fibres share the same space. It moves with crowds, triggers touchless controls, and survives even when every wireless network is disconnected. Naomi eventually discovers there is no hidden person and no intelligence inside the cloth. Identical fibres, human body capacitance and the surrounding environment are phase-locking into a stable collective electrical mode—one shaped like a person because the sensors were engineered around human bodies. The effect becomes dangerous as smart textiles spread through hospitals, transit systems and stadiums. The only fix is to make future electronics deliberately less identical. Then archived electrical recordings reveal the same faint resonance in crowds from before smart fabric existed. The textile did not create an extra person. It made something crowds had always produced visible for the first time. teaBrain #SciFi #ScienceFiction #SmartTextiles #ElectronicTextiles #WearableTech #Electromagnetics #HardSciFi #SciFiStory #PlotTwist
